This shotgun house certainly looks majestic, Andrew. :) But judging from the pictures, it needs a little repainting, though. May I ask: When was the last time you painted this house? Wood shingles should be treated and repainted more often than materials such as cement fiberboard sidings.
Hi Noreen I sold the house in 2002 or 3. I don't know what you are talking about the house sold in the last year or two and the paint job is no older then that.
Shotgun houses usually come at 12 feet (3.5 m) wide, with rooms arranged one behind the other and doors at each end of the house. Noreen's right. Andrew's house back then was a shotgun house. Have you ever visited the house ever since it was sold, Andrew?
How old is the house? Good to hear that that you were able to restore the house. A shotgun house is a convenient symbol of life in the south. I wouldn't wonder if the house next to this is a shotgun house too. I heard a lot of stories about them in New Orleans, and they are all very interesting. We would love to see how it looks like today, that is if you made some changes in its interior. The house still looks great but it seems to need more renovation and a new coat of paint.
I'm a antique dealer and Historical Folk artist. I created this blog to document and highlight my artwork along with my day to day life as a Artist, Antique dealer and collector. My favorite two periods in history are France's Ancien Régime, the time of French Queen Marie Antoinette 1770-1789 and the antebellum period of the American South 1830-1860. Both of theses periods ended tragically with war. I intend to explore furniture, architecture, decorative arts, culture, history, fashion and the people that made up these two fascinating periods in time. I recently moved back to my roots of Mobile, Alabama after living away for 17 years. Come and explore the restoration of my turn-of-the century Art's and crafts bungalow into a Antebellum show place.
Beautiful!
