the detail above, in the fact that there is a man and his dog aware of the
object and peering up at it.

The painting represents the legendary meeting of the infant John the Baptist with Jesus on the return from Egypt. It was meant to being to mind the later scriptural event of the Baptism of Christ when "the heavens opened." Sorry, no UFO.
