The hôtel du duc de Richelieu in Place Royale (now Place des Vosges) housed in the eighteenth century a bureau whose walls were completely covered with carved, polychromed and lacquered designs of Chinese inspiration, illustrating the pronounced taste of the West at that time for « chinoiserie » picturesque subjects depicting the panorama of an imaginary Orient.
Over door with fishing scenes from the hotel of the Duc de Richelieu. Carpentry: Julien-Gabriel and Pierre Maillard Gaye. Sculpture: Roumier François and Louis Regnier. Lacquer: Hécquan Gilles Guillaume Martin or Justin Moyrin. Paris, 1731.
