Directoire mantel-clock, ca.1800, au bon sauvage and Louisiana woman

Gilt and patinated bronze representing a young Indian behind the chair of a young Louisiana woman on a carriage with horse. Model bronze made by bronzier Deverbery . Movement eight-day and striking on a bell. Part of the serie Pendules aux Nègres et Bons Sauvages.

  1. The clock part of the horse and chariot must be very subtle; in fact the wheel looks quite like a wheel :)

Did people use it as a working clock or more as a lovely decorative object.

  2. Hi, Clocks like this were used as a clock and a piece of art. A luxury item.
