The Art Institute of Chicago part 3

Madame de Pastoret and Her Son by David over looking Antonio Canova's Bust of Paris, 1809

A few years ago I was on a cross country drive from Baltimore to San Diego and stopped in Chicago for a few days along the way.The Art Institute of Chicago is a world famous museum and one of the top ten major museums in America. I had one hour to run thru this world famous museum. I ended up missing the American collection of art but I did see the European collection.

Today we are exploring European painting and sculpture & decorative arts. The museums collection is considered one of the finest in the world. The collection of European painting contains more than 3,500 works dating from the 12th through the mid-20th century. Holdings include a rare group of 15th-century Spanish, Italian and Northern European paintings, highlights of European sculpture, and an important selection of 17th- and 18th-century paintings. Major Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works and classic Modern works are among its most significant holdings.
